Ant Control in Gloucester, VA
Carpenter Ant, Carpenter Bee & Household Ant Experts
In a humid, wooded, riverside county full of older wood, the ant that matters most is the carpenter ant — a very different job from the household ants trailing across a kitchen counter. Damp waterfront framing at Gloucester Point and Guinea draws carpenter and acrobat ants, while farmhouse eaves up north draw carpenter bees.

Our Process
How Vinx Controls Ants in Gloucester
Inspection & Species Identification
Your technician checks waterfront framing at Gloucester Point, historic buildings and slabs near the Courthouse, marsh-adjacent wood in Guinea, and farmhouse eaves and outbuildings up north to confirm which ant species is actually present.
Non-Repellent Treatment & Baiting
Non-repellent products and bait let foraging workers carry the treatment back to the colony, reaching the nest rather than just scattering the ants you can see.
Moisture & Wood-Damage Correction
Since carpenter ant colonies point to underlying moisture, we flag the leak, crawlspace damp, or rotted wood behind the infestation so it doesn’t simply return.
Exterior Perimeter Treatment
A treated perimeter keeps new colonies from re-establishing, particularly important on wooded and riverside lots across the county.
What Customers Say
Real Reviews from Gloucester Customers
Tristin was phenomenal and very patient. He didn’t rush and made sure that I was well informed throughout his entire visit. This was my first appointment with the company and so far I am thoroughly impressed!
Always great service! We’ve been with Vinx for over a year. All services have been great and we have no issues with pests since using this service. Recently Mitchell did a wonderful job treating our home!
Excellent customer service. Technicians are professional and courteous. Additional services are discussed in a matter of fact fashion, but no pressure. I know when the service of the property will be, always on time.
Kennard was great. He arrived earlier than expected. Listened intently while I explained what I had been experiencing with pests and although I hadn't had any incidents with snakes he assured me that he would go all the way to the end of my property, which was at the tree line, and perform the necessary treatment needed to prevent the snakes from coming onto my property. He was very thorough in his application of the pesticides. He was friendly, courteous and performed his job in a professional manner.

The Ants Gloucester Actually Has
Carpenter ants hollow out framing and trim wherever river humidity and old crawlspaces keep the wood damp, so a colony is usually a moisture flag on an older or riverside home. Carpenter bees bore the eaves and rails of farmhouses and outbuildings. Odorous house ants file indoors ahead of a rain, pavement ants nest under walks and slabs, and acrobat ants move into damp, rotted wood and wall voids.
Are Fire Ants a Problem in Gloucester?
Not the way they are on the Peninsula. Virginia’s imported fire ant quarantine covers a growing list of counties and independent cities, but Gloucester and the rest of the Middle Peninsula are not currently included, per VDACS. Fire ants are pushing northward across the state, so a stray mound could turn up on a filled, sunny lot, and we can treat one if it does, but they are not an established pest here. That keeps the focus on the carpenter and household ants that genuinely drive Gloucester calls.
Carpenter ants dig into wood to nest but do not eat it the way termites do — both are after moisture, and either one left alone can mean real structural cost over time. Carpenter bee damage compounds year after year on unsealed farmhouse eaves. Getting ahead of the colony, and the moisture behind it, is always cheaper than the repair later.
The fire ant point above is worth pinning down, because it is a regulatory line rather than an opinion. Virginia’s imported fire ant quarantine, effective 27 May 2025, names eighteen counties and fifteen independent cities — and Gloucester is not among them. York County is, directly across the Coleman Bridge, along with James City, Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and Williamsburg. The quarantine line effectively runs down the York River at Gloucester’s doorstep. That does not mean a mound can never turn up here, but it does mean a company treating your Gloucester yard on a fire ant program is selling you the Peninsula’s problem.
Ants That Matter in Gloucester
Carpenter Ant (Camponotus spp.)
Tunnels damp framing and trim rather than eating it, so a colony is usually a moisture flag on an older or riverside home. The sign to look for is coarse sawdust building up below woodwork. Common at Gloucester Point and in Guinea’s marsh-adjacent homes.
Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa virginica): bores round, finger-width holes into farmhouse eaves and rails, especially on unpainted wood up north.
Acrobat Ant (Crematogaster spp.): nests in damp, rotted wood and wall voids, and raises its abdomen over its body when the nest is disturbed. Guinea Neck carries the county’s heaviest acrobat and carpenter ant pressure.
Odorous House Ant (Tapinoma sessile)
Trails indoors ahead of a rain and gives off a distinct coconut smell when crushed. Common across the Courthouse village and the rural north end through the warm months.
Pavement Ant (Tetramorium immigrans)
Nests under walks and slabs, leaving small dirt mounds in pavement cracks. Common along the Courthouse and Route 17 corridor’s commercial walkways.
Ant Risk by Neighborhood
Where Ant Pressure Concentrates Across Gloucester
Gloucester Point & the York River Waterfront
Older waterfront homes and docks draw carpenter ants into damp framing near the water.
Gloucester Courthouse & the Route 17 Corridor
Historic buildings and commercial slabs see both carpenter ants in older wood and pavement ants along walkways.
Guinea Neck & the Mobjack Bay Shore
The county’s heaviest acrobat and carpenter ant pressure, tied to damp, marsh-adjacent wood in the old fishing communities.
Hayes, Petsworth & the Rural North End
Farmhouses and outbuildings draw carpenter bees to unpainted eaves and rails, alongside odorous house ants ahead of rain.

6 Ways to Keep Ants Out of Your Gloucester Home
Frequently Asked Questions
Ant Control FAQ for Gloucester Homeowners
No. Carpenter ants dig into wood to nest but do not eat it; termites do. Both are after moisture, so we inspect to sort out which you have, or whether it is both.
Almost always carpenter bees, which drill into unpainted eaves, rails, and trim, common on the county’s older and outbuilding wood. We treat them and show you the sealing that shuts them out.
Not as an established pest. Gloucester County is not currently in Virginia’s imported fire ant quarantine, which covers a growing list of counties and cities but not the Middle Peninsula. A stray mound is possible as they spread north, and we can treat one, but the ants that actually trouble Gloucester homes are carpenter, odorous house, pavement, and acrobat ants.
Ant control comes with our recurring plans, from $49/mo with a $329 initial treatment. Carpenter ant and carpenter bee work is quoted after we inspect. Call 855-800-8469 for a free quote.
Spraying the trail only kills foragers. We use non-repellent products and bait the ants carry back, so the treatment reaches the nest, then track down and dry out the damp, damaged wood that drew the colony in the first place. That is what actually clears carpenter ants for good.
Yes. Vinx handles residential and commercial ant control across Gloucester County, from Gloucester Point and Guinea to the rural north end, with next-day service and a free inspection.
Yes. We use only EPA-registered products, applied by a licensed technician, and the treated area is safe for children and pets as soon as it dries.
